[Verse 1]
Got authority
Satisfied your child
Placed on pedestal
Sastra guru sadhu
Say defer to they
Equation – self removed
Forget choice you made
Deny own opinion

[Chorus ]
Claim higher ground
Judge in name of God
Equate faith with known with revelation
No doubt admit
Scorn uncertainty
Soul-divinity scope limit
Life goal prescribe

[Verse 2]
Got your evidence
Quote intelligence
Proved your conclusions
Prejudice justified
Cherry picked your facts
Contradictions dismissed
Subjective point of view
Incite as truth absolute

[Repeat Chorus]

[Instrumental]

[Verse 3]
Cosy confidence
See with blinkered eyes
For if ignorance is bliss
’tis folly to be wise

Paradox? … I’m suggesting that admitting I might be wrong, manifest (for example) in my switching from saying ‘I know’ to ‘I believe’ … far from jeopardising a fragile faith or progress on the spiritual path, instead has affirmed my faith and freed me in my further advancement (at least that is my perception). OK, it’s not very cosy, so I would not recommend such a step prematurely 😉
